Vote now for year’s top stories Comments

We’ve gotten some response so far from our call to readers to vote for what they thought the top stories of the year were in Corvallis. But there’s still time for you to weigh in — and we’ve made it a lot easier for you to do that.

In a blog I wrote earlier this month, I explained the rich tradition of the year-end story in journalism, which basically boils down to this: These stories are good bets during periods when the flow of news tends to slow way down, like the week between Christmas and New Year’s Day. As part of this year’s array of year-end stories, I invited readers to e-mail me with their picks for the year’s biggest local stories.

But now, Matt Neznanski has come up with an even easier way to readers to vote for their top stories: Click here, and leave a comment. (Just vote for your stories in your comment, please; don’t start ripping into the lists posted by other readers. That’s bad form.)

Deadline is noon on Thursday. Matt and I will compile the results, and we’ll run them in the printed edition and online sometime over the weekend.

If you still want to e-mail me with your picks, that’s fine. Click here to e-mail me.

Although some readers have asked whether we’re going to compile a list of top stories of the decade, the truth is that didn’t even occur to me until a couple of days ago. So the answer is … no. And, also, wasn’t it a pretty awful decade, all in all? (This is why I can’t get too worked up about the clamor that we never found a proper name for the decade; let’s just get this decade over with and start working on a better one.)

One final note: It’s not too late to participate in our Holiday Twitter Challenge: Click here to find out more about that.
