Forum on tax measures set for tonight Comments

Don’t forget the public meeting of the Gazette-Times’ editorial board, scheduled for tonight at 7 at the Corvallis-Benton County Public Library, 645 N.W. Monroe Ave.

Our topic tonight will be Measures 66 and 67, the two tax-increase measures on the January ballot. We’ll be joined by Sen. Frank Morse and Rep. Sara Gelser, two legislators we respect but who have different positions on these measures.

We’re not looking for a debate between the two as we are more of a civil conversation. We’ll let each of them open with some initial thoughts, and then members of the newspaper’s editorial board will start asking questions. We’ll invite audience members to submit questions on index cards we’ll distribute, and we’ll ask the best of those questions.

We’ll be done by 8:30 p.m.

There will be no charge to attend. We’ll even provide the index cards. You might need to provide your own pen.

If you can’t make the session, but want to submit a question, e-mail me by clicking here. (Make sure that your question is one that both Gelser and Morse can answer.)

We’ll also ask Gelser and Morse for some overall thoughts about the tax measures, and we’ll video their responses. Check back to our Web site later to check out that video.

By the way, one of our goals for 2010 is to have more of those public meetings of the G-T’s editorial board, which decides what positions the paper will stake out in its editorials. I’ll keep you posted as we arrange additional sessions.
