The G-T’s Scobel Wiggins caught this photo at Friday’s Polar Bear event outside at the Osborn Aquatic Center. At the 2009 event, I wimped out on going down the water slide, but vowed to give it a shot in 2010. Hence this moment.

A second or so after Scobel shot this image, it finally occurred to me that splashdown almost certainly would require full immersion in the pool. As the people behind me in line will testify, I was going very slowly down the slide in hopes of avoiding that, but it didn’t matter: I took the full dunk. The G-T’s Cheryl Hatch followed me, and she had the right idea: She raced down the slide.

So, faster sliding and maybe two trips down the slide: Those are goals for 2011.
